GEORGE WHITE PARTICIPATES IN LEADERSHIP AMES-
Exerpts from the Ames Tribune's Bob ZientaraThe Leadership of Ames program has been active for nearly two decades, the program trains and enriches the backgrounds of the hundreds of businesses and business professionals of Story County. One of its key benefits continue to reverberate the local life. The program is sponsored by the Ames Chamberof Commerce, it is one of the oldest programs in the state as it entered its 22nd year in January.
Members who participate through the Chamber of Commerce is found as a big benefit to businesses. Programs take nearly nine months to complete and is coordinated by the Leadership Ames alumni, programs are scheduled, engage speakers, and organize material. Some of the courses are repeated because there are experts in the field who have experience and are available on an annual basis.
The program helps people get to know Ames and Iowa through one-day field trips to different locations in Ames and the surrounding region. Those participants will familiarize themselves in a particular company, government, or organization. Places visited were government organizations such as schools and hospitals. The group met with local developers and they studied planning, housing, public works, and other things related to development.
Personality development is part of the programs process, it provides an opportunity to find what kind of leader you are, the process provides an idea of their personality types and the kinds of leadership situations in which they're most comfortable with. In addition with the training the participants of the program organize a community service project of something that will better the community of Ames as a whole or a part of the community.Â
